Monday, Aug. 20

Triple-A Toledo

The Mud Hens were off on Monday. Here's Sunday's recap:

Toledo, Ohio — Jacob Robson hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning, as the Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Rochester Red Wings, 4-3, on Sunday (BOX SCORE).

Warwick Saupold scored the winning run after he entered the game as a pinch runner.

Earlier in the inning, Pete Kozma singled, scoring Harold Castro to tie the game at 3.

The Red Wings took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th when Juan Graterol hit an RBI single, scoring LaMonte Wade.

Caleb Thielbar (4-1) got the win in relief while John Curtiss (2-4) took the loss in the International League game.

Kennys Vargas homered and singled, driving home two runs for the Red Wings.

Double-A Erie

Erie, Pa. — Josh Lester hit two home runs and drove in six runs, as the Erie SeaWolves defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 11-5, on Monday (BOX SCORE).

Lester hit a two-run shot in the first inning and then hit a three-run homer in the third, both off Kyle Dowdy. Jake Rogers homered and singled in the win.

Erie starter Spenser Watkins (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing three runs over five innings. Opposing starter Dowdy (3-8) took the loss in the Eastern League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and four hits over three innings.

Single-A Lakeland

The Flying Tigers were off on Monday. Here's Sunday's recap:

Lakeland, Fla. — CJ Alexander singled three times, and Tucker Davidson allowed just three hits over 7.2 innings as the Florida Fire Frogs beat the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 5-0, on Sunday (BOX SCORE). With the loss, the Flying Tigers snapped a six-game winning streak.

Davidson (7-10) picked up the win after he struck out six.

Florida scored one run in the second, including a wild pitch that scored Jordan Rodgers. The Fire Frogs scored again in the third inning, when they scored four runs, including a single by Rodgers that scored Alexander.

Gregory Soto (7-7) went four innings, allowing five runs and four hits in the Florida State League game. He also struck out three and walked two.

The Flying Tigers were held off the scoreboard for the 14th time this season, while the Fire Frogs’ staff recorded their 10th shutout of the year.

Single-A West Michigan

Eastlake, Ohio — Jordan Pearce doubled and singled twice, and Elvin Rodriguez tossed five scoreless innings as the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Lake County Captains, 3-1, on Monday (BOX SCORE).

Johan Belisario allowed a run, but got Jesse Berardi to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his third save of the season.

Rodriguez (7-7) allowed three hits while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win.

West Michigan got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Brady Policelli advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a single by Pearce.

After West Michigan added two runs in the ninth, the Captains cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Richard Palacios hit an RBI single, scoring Josh Rolette.

Jean Carlos Mejia (4-7) went seven innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out nine in the Midwest League game.

Single-A Connecticut

Norwich, Conn. — Ford Proctor hit a run-scoring double in the seventh inning, leading the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 3-1 win over the Connecticut Tigers on Monday (BOX SCORE).

Connecticut had a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth, but Isrrael De La Cruz struck out to end the game.

The double by Proctor, part of a two-run inning, tied the game at 1 before Proctor scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

The Renegades tacked on another run in the ninth when Tyler Frank hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Michael Smith.

Tanner Dodson singled three times for Hudson Valley.

Alan Strong (1-1) got the win with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief while Arvicent Perez (0-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.

With the win, Hudson Valley improved to 6-1 against Connecticut this season.

GCL West (Rookie ball)

Lakeland, Fla. — Hector Martinez had a walk-off double with one out in the ninth inning, as the GCL Tigers West defeated the GCL Yankees West, 4-3, on Monday (BOX SCORE).

Ildemaro Escalona scored the winning run after he reached base with a double.

The GCL Tigers West scored two runs in the eighth before GCL Yankees West answered with three in the next half-inning to tie the game at 3.

GCL Tigers West starter Xavier Javier struck out six while allowing three hits over six scoreless innings. Michael Gizzi (4-1) got the win in relief while Havid Burgos (0-1) took the loss in the Gulf Coast League game.

Jon Rosoff tripled and singled twice, scoring a run and also driving one home in the win. Escalona doubled and singled twice.

Luis Santos singled twice, also stealing a base for the GCL Yankees West.

GCL Tigers West improved to 6-1 against GCL Yankees West this season.

GCL East (Rookie ball)

GCL Tigers East was off on Sunday and Monday. Here's Saturday's recap:

Lakeland, Fla. — Alexander Santana doubled and singled twice, scoring three runs as the GCL Yankees East defeated the GCL Tigers East, 7-1, on Saturday (BOX SCORE).

Borinquen Mendez doubled twice, also stealing two bases for GCL Yankees East.

GCL Tigers East tied the game at 1 in the second after Kingston Liniak drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Ulrich Bojarski.

After GCL Yankees East added a run in the third on a single by Chace Numata, the GCL Yankees East extended their lead in the sixth inning when Raymundo Moreno and Mendez hit RBI doubles.

The GCL Yankees East later added two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth. In the seventh, Asdrubal Alvarez and Christian Andrade hit RBI singles, while Saul Torres scored on a double play in the ninth.

Josh Maciejewski (2-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while GCL Tigers East starter Edgar Escalona (1-3) took the loss in the Gulf Coast League game.

The five extra-base hits for GCL Yankees East included a season-high five doubles.

Despite the loss, GCL Tigers East is 4-2 against GCL Yankees East this season.
