GARDEN PARTIES

at the Whitney

A longstanding spring and summer tradition in Midtown and the Cass Corridor is live local music in the garden of the Whitney restaurant. This year’s season kicks off Thursday with Metro Detroit singer/songwriter Jill Jack. Other highlights include Brunswick Brawlers on May 24, the Gasoline Gypsies June 21 and Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils on July 12. ALLEE WILLIS

GRAND OPENING OF FREIGHT YARD

at Dequindre Cut Freight Yard

The public debut of this outdoor retail and entertainment gathering space includes local artists, entertainment and food and drinks. Its shipping container structures were conceptualized and created by students from Lawrence Technological University and Western International High School. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sat. “STAR WARS AND THE POWER OF THE COSTUME”

Dozens of costumes and sketches from the first seven “Star Wars” films are part of this exhibition, including wardrobes of Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Queen Amidala, Chewbacca, Han Solo and various droids, including C-3PO and R2-D2.
